Photographer Eugene Madatov says of his experience in taking these and many other photos during his explorations of the Chernobyl Zone: "You cannot reach those places by taking an official 'extreme' tour. There is no train to Childhood Grand Central, no flight to the world of self-reflection and solitude, no sails to the silent faded coffins of abandoned huts. The only way into the heart of the Chernobyl Zone is – 30 kilos on your back; blistered, bloody feet; the brown slush of bogs; packs of wolves and flocks of boars."
